Computer Shuts Down

If you are having issues with a computer that shuts down, especially during scans or word processing applications (Microsoft Word), check to make sure the fan ventilation grille is not obstructed. The processor runs hot and needs proper ventilation for cooling. Scans and word processing functions are processor-intensive so the computer runs hotter than normal under there conditions. If the processor gets too hot, it will shut down as a precautionary measure to avoid damage.

If you want to speed up a slow computer, the single most effective method is a RAM upgrade. Step-by-step guide at Speed Up Slow Computer Systems.
